FROM THE SERVICE OFFICER: Two bills pending in Congree would extend VA Benefits for Agent Orange exposure to the "Blue Water" sailors who served off the coast of Vietnam during the war. H.R. 969 in the House and S. 681 in the Senate are both called the Blue Water Navy Veterans Act of 2015. Both bills would include Vietnam's territorial seas as a qualifying for presumption of service connection for diseases associated with Agent Orange. Blue Water ships were hit by NVA SHORE BATTERY FIRE. Since 2002, the VA has considered troops who served on Vietnam's soil, as well as "Brown Water" Navy vets who operated on the country's inland waterways and rivers, as being exposed to Agent Orange and, therefore eligible for presumptive benefits. This spring, S 681 had been referred to the Senate VA Committee, and H.R. 969 was being considered by the House Subcommittee on Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs.
The VA considers AL Amyloidoses; Chronic B-cell Leukemias, Clhorance; Diabetes Mellitus Type 2; Hodgkin's Disease, Ischemic Heart Disease; Multiple Myeloma; Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, Parkinson's Disease' Peripheral Neuropathy, Early Onset; Porphyria Cutanea Tarda; Prostate Cancer; Respiratory Cancers; and Soft Tissues Sarcomas as related to Agent Orange. Let's hope they pass these bills!
